Columbus Circle Facts

Columbus Circle:

Columbus Circle was planned as the original entrance to Central Park.  It is the "zero mile point" from which all distances get measured, the geographic center of New York City, as well as a major subway stop.  It is included in the 5 districts of midtown along with the Plaza District, Times Square, Grand Central and Penn Plaza.  Columbus Circle is the gateway to the Upper West Side.  The Time Warner Center is a noteworthy entry point across from the statue of Christopher Columbus.  Office buildings in this neighborhood include:

This neighborhood encompasses the Lincoln Center campus as well as a plethora of famous restaurants and food stores.  This is a vibrant residential community at the heart, with commercial office buildings primarily in the southern part of the district.  The Columbus Circle neighborhood is described as having a southern border on West 50th Street from the Hudson River to 6th Avenue, up to 59th Street and back to the River- including the area West of Central Park up to West 65th Street.  It basically includes the entire area between Hell’s Kitchen and Lincoln Square.

The architectural style in the southern part of this neighborhood is a mix of old bulky structures and brand new skyscrapers.  Retail is a mix of old hangers on, and new upscale shops and restaurants.  This dichotomy will present itself throughout New York City and will change as neighborhoods gentrify.  The Columbus Circle neighborhood and the Upper West Side in general is home to some of the most expensive residential real estate in New York and is always in the top tourist attractions in Manhattan
