Tribeca is an abbreviation for “Triangle Below Canal Street”. The neighborhood is bounded by Canal, West, Broadway and Chambers streets. It was originally residential transitioning into more of a mercantile area in the 19^th century. It was heavily impacted by the September 11^th attack, and in its rehabilitation thereafter was favored by technology oriented tenants and start-ups, while many of the former industrial buildings have been converted to residential use – and over the years has been home to many famous people.
